For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a writer. My journey to writing began as most, I was an avid reader. The greatest gift of my life was learning to read early. Books transformed me. Knowledge emboldened me. It made me strong. It was the fortification I needed to deal with the world around me. Books brought me joy and solace. They allowed me to dream of places I didn’t know existed. They allowed me to dream of a life beyond my limits of my family, my neighborhood or my city. They allowed me the belief that the world was my home. Because I love books, I wanted to write them. That was my dream. I longed to see my name in print. As I grew up, life, as it is often said, got in the way. My priorities shifted. And though I still had the dream of writing a book, I put it on my bucket list and went on with my life.
There’s something about turning 40 that brings an urgency to completing the items on your bucket list. Now, at 44, I decided it was now or never. I was going to check author off my list. And I did. On June 14, 2017, I officially became a published author! Common Sense and Coffee is my literal dream come true.
I do not have words to describe how happy I am at the response to the book! I sincerely thank everyone who has called, texted, or emailed me. I deeply thank everyone who has purchased a copy or three!! I thank you for your love and encouragement. I thank everyone who has already asked if there will be a book 2. To that question I say, give me time. My first baby isn’t even a month old yet!
Thank you for taking this journey with me. Thank you for being readers. Thank you for laughing with me, learning with me, and sharing your stories with me.
With sincerity, grace, and love, I surrender my gratitude.
